Yamaha XTZ 660 Tenere.

Not sure I want to get this one dirty, and I don't have "knobblies" on it (yet) so that will be my excuse to stick to the tarmac for a while.

Correct. There is no way I would give up the GS.

I have not done many miles yet. The Tenere feels good, but it is no GS. Not as comfy and only half the power, but it should be more manageable in traffic and off-road.

Welcome to the "club" Nick.

I love mine as you probably know and rate it as a good all round bike. I have just fitted some Trelleborg Army Specials which have some fairly serious knobblies on them but are good (ish) on the road to. For the pair about £90.00 inc carriage. If you need any more info let me know as I can't recall website at mo but can get it if you need it. I am up in the Lake district weeend after next doing some green lanes with some guys from XT.660.com and the Trelleborgs are rated by some of these riders.

Is the Tenere new?

If you want any technical info then register on XT.660.com and all the info is on there.

Hopefully may be able to make the 17th on Salisbury plain so would be nice if there two Ten's out?

cheers Mark

I am using the Tenere every day commuting into central London. I find it great in traffic. Handles well, very maneuverable, well balanced, and easy to ride at walking pace.

Riding with a pillion seems fine, but Anna was not too impressed at the vibrations at motorway speeds and she preferes the BMW GS - so that gives me a good excuse to keep both!

As for adding accessories (other than the Yamaha Top Box) I have hot grips, Touratech handguards and a power socket and RAM mount for my GPS. A centre stand and crash bars are on the shopping list.

Still not determined the ultimate range of the tank - the fuel guage counts UP how long you have been on "reserve". Seems a strange way of doing things - the BMW guage counting DOWN seems more logical !

Have not been off-road yet (unusual for me). The standard tyres seem very good on the road and I would like to try them on some light off-roading before swapping to knobblies. I am not sure how much mud-plugging I want to do anyway
